News : CBSE'S NOTIFICATION REGARDING 2010 BOARD EXAMS


It has become  a tradition for last 2-3 years to spread rumors about CBSE Examination Date Sheet.  Even last year, it was being said that the exams will be conducted in the month of February 2009 as there are General Parliamentary Election in India. At last CBSE had to issue a notification regarding the examination dates and it was officially declared that there was no change in CBSE Examination schedule.
The same case is being repeated this year too. We are receiving lots of mails about CBSE Date Sheet for 2010 examinations. People say the exams are pre-pond due to common wealth games or due to new assessment scheme. We at http://myCBSEguide.com clearing the doubts of the students and parents for last one month still we are receiving more inquiries daily.
Now it is officially announced by CBSE that THERE IS NO CHANGE IN EXAMINATION SCHEDULE FOR 2010. CLASS 10 AND 12 EXAMS WILL START FROM FIRST WORKING DAY OF MARCH 2010 and detailed datesheet will be announced in last week of December 2009. It is officially notified at CBSE official website and we hope that there should be no more doubts regarding CBSE Date Sheet for 2010 Examinations.

Nobel PrizeThe Nobel Prize (Swedish: Nobelpriset) is a Sweden-based international monetary prize. The award was established by the 1895 will and estate of Swedish chemist and inventor Alfred Nobel. It was first awarded in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Peace in 1901. An associated prize, The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, was instituted by Sweden's central bank in 1968 and first awarded in 1969. The Nobel Prizes in the specific disciplines (Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, and Literature) and the Prize in Economics, which is commonly identified with them, are widely regarded as the most prestigious award one can receive in those fields. ABOUT THE CBSE GUIDELINES FOR MATHEMATICS IN LABORATORY
The present document includes details of all Class X activities to be carried out by the students during the full academic session. Description of a few sample projects has also been included. Since Class X is a terminal stage, great care has been taken to ensure that these activities are directly related to the syllabus, can be easily performed and do not require expensive equipment or materials. A detailed evaluation scheme has also been given. A sincere attempt has been made to ensure that the students or teachers are not put to any kind of stress due to time constraint, curriculum load or any other difficulties in carrying out the proposed activity work. For the sake of completeness and reinforcement of the concept, the present document reiterates the general features of a Mathematics Laboratory given in the earlier document for Class IX.

Q.1. I am studying from NCERT books and I have completed latest CBSE Sample Papers. Will I be able to score good marks ( say 80% or more ) ?
Ans. Marks scored by any student depend upon their preparation and performance during examination. The students are adviced to remain focussed and do their best.

Q.2. How many sets are there for a particular question paper ? Can questions in one sets may be easier than the other set ?
Ans. There are three sets of question papers. The questions in all the three sets are designed in such a manner that the level of difficulty is same in all question papers.

Q.3. Will the pattern of examination be different this year for Class X and XII ?
Ans. CBSE issues Sample Question Papers each year. These sample papers are designed to give a general overview of that years paper design and weightages.CBSE also issues marking schemes for the question paper. It is recommended to solve the sample papers issued by CBSE and have the marking scheme.

Q.4.Is there step marking in Mathematics paper ?
Ans. Yes, there is step marking in Mathematics papers. If you have missed steps, marks will be deducted. The marking scheme will help students to know about the weightage and steps.Go through the marking scheme and practice solving mathematics problems in a stepwise manner.

Q.5. Which pen should be used for writing answers in Board exams? Can I use a black pen ?
Ans. Blue or royal blue pen should be used for writing answers. While writing answers, students should write in a neat and legible manner.To much cutting and bad handwriting will have bad impression on the teacher and this will effect the marks also.

Q.6. How can I get good marks in Mathematics ?
Ans. Mathematics is a subject which requires written practice. Reading maths book as if it is history book, will not help. Practice, practice and practice. Solve as many problems as you can. Revise the entire syllabus. Go through the NCERT books, try to solve each problem given in the book, even the solved examples.Practice Sample question papers.

Q.7. What are the points which a teacher looks for when marking the answers? What is the best way to write an answer?
Ans. In CBSE, there is stepwise marking for each answer. Answer is divided into steps and marks are given according to the weightage assigned for each step.It is recommended to go through the marking scheme issued by CBSE.

Q.8.Is it necessary to write answers in a serial order?
Ans. It is not necessary to write answers in a serial order and no marks are cut for that.But, it is advised that the serial order should be followed as far as possible. Again, it is not compulsory. If you are not able to answer any question, leave that and try to answer the next question.

Q.9.Will there be negative marking for exceeding word limit ?
Ans. There is no negative marking for exceeding the word limit.But, it is advised to follow the word limit. Without following the word limit, it will become difficult for students to complete the paper within the alloted time.

Q.10.What type of questions are asked in the papers like physics, chemistry, biology, economics, history, social science, economics, english, hindi etc. ?
Ans. The students can get an idea of the pattern of question paper and type of questions asked by going through the sample papers issued by CBSE. The marking scheme will help students to understand how they should write answers to get maximum marks.

Q.11. Is it compulsory to pass in theory and practical exams separately ?
Ans. Yes, it is compulsory to pass theory and practical exams separately in subjects which have both theory and practical exams in Class XII.

Q.12. While preparing for CBSE Board exams, which books should be followed? There are a lot of question banks and refreshers available in the market?
Ans. It is recommended to students that they should follow the NCERT books for CBSE Board exams. NCERT books cover the entire syllabus, these books are prepared by panel of expert teachers. A lot of research is done before prepairing these books and no other books available in the market are upto the standards of NCERT books.

Q. 13. I failed in the compartment examination in July-August.Would I have to re-appear in all subjects again?
Ans. There are three chances give to students to clear the compartment examination.First exam in July-August followed by second chance in March-April and third chance in July-August.If the student is unable to clear the compartment exam in these three chances, he will have to appear in all subjects again.

Q.14. If a students fails in the pre Board examination conducted by school, can he/she be detained from appearing in Board exams?
Ans. The student cannot be detained from appearing in Board exams if he.she is otherwise eligible. Failing in pre board exams cannot be used as a reason for detaining a student from appearing in Board exams.

Q.15. Which students can appear for Board examination as private candidate?
Ans. A student can appear as private candidate only under these conditions: 1. Failed Candidates 2. Teachers serving in educational institutes 3. Woman candidates who are bonafide residents of NCT of Delhi and 4. Physically handicapped students

Q.16. How can I get my answer sheets re-evaluated ?
Ans. There is no provision of re-evaluation of answer scripts in CBSE Board exams.There is the provision of scrutiny of re-checking in a particular subject or all subjects. Application for that should be made within 21 days for the main examination and 15 days for compartment examination from the date of declaration of result. Application along with the required fee should be sent to respective regional office only.

Q.17. Will there be a new pass certificate issued after I pass my improvement exam ?
Ans. No pass certificate is issued in the case of improvement exam. The Board issues only a statement of marks indicating the student’s performance.

CBSE Mathematics Olympiad 2009

THE CBSE MATHEMATICS OLYMPIAD 2009 
You are aware that Central Board of Secondary Education has been conducting Group Mathematics Olympiad every year. The competition  is held at  selected venues  in different parts of the country and aims at identifying, promoting and nurturing talent in the subject. This is to inform you that this year’s said competition will be held on Sunday, 29th November 2009  at  identified  centers.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Mathematical Olympiads are  the  competitions  conducted by different organizations  to identify, encourage, promote and nurture  the  talent  in Mathematics at State, Regional, National and  International  levels.
After having been accorded  the status of an  independent group by National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM) in 1997, Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi has been conducting CBSE Group Mathematical Olympiad  for students studying  in  its affiliated schools.
The  said  competition will  be  conducted on  fourth Sunday of November  at  different centers  located  in different parts of  the country. Top 30 students  from CBSE group will  then participate  in  Indian  National Mathematical  Olympiad  (INMO)  conducted  by  National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM). Selection at National level leads to participation at the  international Mathematical Olympiad
OBJECTIVES OF MATHEMATICAL OLYMPIAD
The role of Mathematics cannot be denied  in  the age of rapid  technological advancements and  innovations. The broad objectives of conducting mathematical Olympiad  include:
Identifying  talent  in Mathematics
Providing opportunities to young and talented students to solve challenging problems in Mathematics.
Promoting excellence  in Mathematics
Encouraging  talented students  to pursue carriers  in  the  fields  related  to Mathematics.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN CBSE GROUP MATHEMATICAL OLYMPIAD?
a) Any  student  studying  in  class XII, XI, X  or  IX  can  participate  in  the  competition. However,  there will be a common question paper  for all participants.
b) A school can sponsor upto 5 students  for  the competition.
c) The  five students should be selected strictly on  the basis of a screening  test conducted by  the school  itself.
FEE TO BE PAID
Every sponsored candidate shall remit a sum of Rs.35/- as entry fee for the examination. The  fee of  the candidates should be  forwarded by  the Principal of sponsoring school  to  the state coordinator in the form of demand draft in favour of the Principal of the venue school. The  list of state coordinators appears at  the end of  this  folder.
DATE OF EXAMINATION
a) Thirteenth CBSE group Mathematical Olympiad 2009 will be held on Sunday, 29th November 2009 at  the centres notified at  the end of  this  folder.
b) The examination will commence at 1.00 p.m. 4.00 p.m.
c) The duration of  the examination will be 3 hours.
LAST DATE FOR APPLYING
The fee along with the desired information about the sponsored students should reach the State Coordinator by 21  October, 2009.  In no case should  the  fee or documents be sent  to the Board.
HOW TO APPLY?
a) The Head of  Institution will  forward  the names of sponsored students  to  the state coordinator nominated by  the Board.
b) The information about the sponsored candidates including name, father’s name, date of birth, school address, class, residential address, total marks obtained in the class one lower than in which he/she is studying, should be sent to the state coordinator along with  the  fee before  the  last date.
c) The sponsored candidates should be bonafide students of  the  institution.
d) The  admit  card  to  be  issued  by  the  sponsoring  school  should  have  complete information about  the students.
e) The  admit  card  should  also  carry  the  signature  of  the  student  and  his/her  latest photograph duly attested by  the Principal.
VENUE FOR THE EXAMINATION
a) The Group Mathematical Olympiad will be held at one or two venues in each state as listed  in  the  folder.
b) Every candidate is required to appear at the venue in his/her state only. No change of venue  for  the examination will be admissible.
c) Every  candidate  has  to  bear  the  expenditure  for  his/her  transport,  boarding  and lodging etc.
d) In  case  of  candidates  studying  in  Gulf  schools,  the  schools  will  have  to  make arrangement  for candidate  to appear at  the  identified centre.
e) The state coordinator will inform all the participating schools about the roll nos. of the candidates, exact  venue, date of examination,  time of examination and  the other details.
MEDIUM OF EXAMINATION
The question paper will be made available  in English Medium. The candidates are  required to answer  in  the English medium.
SYLLABUS AND PATTERN OF EXAMINATION
There is no specific syllabus for the examination. Areas of school Mathematics such as algebra, geometry, basic number  theory,  trigonometry, arithmetic, combinatorics etc. are  to be prepared for the test. The question paper will consist of 6-7 questions of non-routine
nature.
CONDUCT OF GMO
1) The Coordinator will act as the Centre Supdt. for the examination at his/her centre. He/she will appoint  invigilator as per CBSE examination norms.
2) In  addition  to  invigilators,  the  Centre  Supdt. may  appoint  one  clerk/peon  for  the conduct of  the examination.
QUESTION PAPERS
a) The question papers will be sent by CBSE  to  the State/Regional Coordinator directly in advance.
b) The  coordinator  shall  keep  the  sealed  papers  in  his/her  safe  custody  till  the commencement  of  examination.  The  sealed  packets  containing  the  question papers should be opened only half an hour before  the start of examination.
MERIT LIST
The answer sheets of candidates who appear in CBSE GMO will be evaluated at the centre decided by the Board. CBSE will select 30 candidates strictly in order of merit. Only  the selected candidates will be  informed about  the result and will be eligible  to appear  in  the  Indian National Mathematical Olympiad conducted by NBHM. The name of the  selected  candidates will be  communicated  to  the  respective  schools as well as NBHM  for  further necessary action.
